Despite the fact that his paintings are ranked among the greatest 19th-century works of art, Charles Gleyre has never been the central focus of attention of any exhibition in France before. However, this summer, until September 11th, 2016, the Musée d’Orsay will be dedicating an impressive exhibition that brings together some of the most remarkable paintings by this artist: Charles Gleyre (1806-1874). The Reformed Romantic.

However, this summer, until September 11th, 2016, the Musée d’Orsay will be dedicating an impressive exhibition that brings together some of the most remarkable paintings by this artist: Charles Gleyre (1806-1874). The Reformed Romantic.
The exhibition Charles Gleyre (1806-1874). The Reformed Romantic is an occasion to discover more about this talented artist as well as his works. It is also an opportunity to see to what extent his studio contributed to the creation and the development of many artists including Claude Monet (1840 – 1926), Jean Frédéric Bazille (1841 – 1870), Alfred Sisley (1839 – 1899), Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824 – 1904), Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841 – 1919), and James Abbott McNeill Whistler (1834 – 1903).
A selection of unique and amazing works on loan from the Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts in Lausanne, Switzerland, are also on view.
