Published: 02 September 2017
From 23 May 2017 to 01 October 2017
In collaboration with the Te Papa Tangarewa Museum in New Zealand, until October 1st, 2017, the Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac Paris will be hosting an unparalleled exhibition dedicated to the Maori culture of New Zealand and their extraordinary skills in the art of carving on Jade stone.
Entitled “La Pierre sacrée des Maori”, meaning “The Sacred Stone of the Maori” in English, the exhibition aims mainly at putting the precious pieces of Aotearoa (the Māori name for New Zealand) under the spotlight. It boasts about 200 Pounamu (Jade) treasures and traces the long and interesting history of this fascinating green stone, highlighting its spiritual significance to the indigenous people of New Zealand.
Around 95 pendants in the shape of humans, 20 weapons, and 4 large Pounamu touchstones, are on display to the public. So, don’t miss discovering them!
