Highlighting the diversity of culture and the uniqueness of the Marquesan art, the exhibition Matahoata, Arts and Society in the Marquesas Islands is on view at the Galerie Jardin of the Musée du quai Branly, from April12th through July 24th, 2016.

Matahoata, Arts and Society in the Marquesas Islands features more than 300 amazing pieces and stunning artworks by famous artists who were profoundly influenced and inspired by the Polynesian culture, such as the Post-Impressionist painter and sculptor Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin (1848 – 1903).

Furthermore, it spots light on the dynamism of contemporary art and the vitality of local festivals along with the mere preservation of cultural heritage.

Matahoata, Arts and Society in the Marquesas Islands is curated by Carol Ivory, a professor at the public research university Washington State University (WSU) and a specialist in the Marquesas Islands.
