Chaïm Soutine

From 21 January 2012 to 03 October 2012

Order out of Chaos

The Orangerie Museum in Paris boasts the largest Chaim Soutine collection in Europe. This retrospective is based on 22 of Soutine’s paintings from the museum.
Chaim Soutine was born in Russia in 1893 and died in Paris in 1943. His Expressionist style portrays the artist's torment as well as a sense of brute force. The exhibition at the Orangerie takes a new look at this utterly original painter and goes beyond his image as a tormented genius — an image that, until now, has managed to overshadow his intense and unorthodox work.
