The name Emil Georg Bührle may not be that familiar to many people in Paris. But, he is actually one of the most renowned German art collectors of recent times. He sought to create a stunning, diverse collection in the 1950s and ended up with more than 600 pieces from various artists.
The great news for art fans here in Paris is that some of the very best of Buhrle pieces will be on show at the Musee Maillol this spring. The show cherry-picks star pieces in a brilliant chronological tour of the collection. There are earlier pieces from some of the best impressionist masters – such as Pissarro, Manet and Renoir – followed by the post-impressionists like Van Gogh and Cezanne. There are also later pieces from some of the best Cubists and a piece from Picasso.
La Collection Bührle exhibition is a brilliant taste of the man’s expertise and work in the 1950s. Art lovers can see it for themselves between March 20th and July 21st.
Curatorship: Lukas Gloor, director and curator of the Emil Bührle Collection, Zurich.
