Haute Couture as Art in Paris? But of Course!
From 06 March 2013 to 06 July 2013
Before the looks hit the runway
The Hôtel de Ville will soon be revealing its latest exhibition: a collection of beautiful, high fashion dresses from the likes of Balenciaga, Chanel and many others. Organized in partnership with luxury jeweler Swarovski, the exhibition entitled 'Paris Haute Couture' pays tribute to a tradition of haute couture that was born in Paris itself. Dating back from the 19th century, generations of couturiers have trained and perfected their skills, as well as their creativity, in Paris -- transforming a once-frivolous discipline into a form of grand art. Considered by many to be the fashion capital of the world, the city of Paris will present a collection of 100 luxurious designer dresses and gowns. These pieces have been chosen from the prestigious collections of the Musée Galliera, the Paris fashion museum. Although this museum will itself be closed until the autumn of 2013, fans of fashion can visit the Hôtel de Ville to see 100 of the collection's most impressive dresses, which have shaped contemporary fashion tastes for decades. In addition to the dresses, the Hôtel de Ville will also present sketches and photographs chronicling the development of the designs. This offers visitors a behind-the-scenes look at some of the most iconic fashion brands in the world.
