Man Meets Machine at the Mécanhumanimal Exhibit
From 04 June 2013 to 05 January 2014
An artistic look at technological progress
Mécanhumanimal is the bizarre name of one of the exhibits currently showing at the Musée des Arts et Métiers. Hinting at strange combinations of man, beast and machine, an artist named Enki Bilal takes visitors on a journey through his unique world.
Bilal is a multimedia artist that has been crafting his pieces since the 1970s. Now, during his latest exhibition, the entire range of his fantasy creations is revealed. One of the most interesting aspects of the exhibition is the fact that is illustrates a historic view of what the future would be like.
Many works, created decades before, now seem eerily prophetic as Bilal explores the cybernetic boundaries between organic and mechanical entities. The exhibition is organized by themes — such as The Human Being, The Machine, The Animal, Conflict and The Planet. In total approximately 100 canvases and drawings are displayed, along with other art objects that have been selected by Bilal himself.
In this way, visitors can trace both the progression of technology since the 1970s and the evolution of a talented and visionary artist.
