Treasures of Kyoto exhibition at the Cernuschi Museum
Published: 16 October 2018
From 26 October 2018 to 27 January 2019
Every now and then, a gallery comes up with a title for an exhibition that hits the mark in more ways than one. This is definitely true of the Treasures of Kyoto exhibition at the Cernuschi Museum.
French visitors to the gallery are sure to see these Japanese masterpieces as treasures due to their age,
beauty and appeal as foreign artifacts. There is also deeper significance in the term treasure from a Japanese standpoint.
The show centres around a piece called Fûjin Raijin-zu byôbu - Wind God and Thunder God – by Hon'ami Kōetsu. This painting has the status of a Japanese National Treasure. This status means that this exhibition in Paris is even more special.
It is a treat to be allowed to showcase this work outside of Japan, and this is its first exhibition in Europe. Treasures of Kyoto begins on October 26th and continues until January 27th.
