The Latin Quarter & St Germain des Pres
St-Germain-des-Prés, one of the more swanky, upscale neighborhoods in Paris. Here, you’ll find locals outfitted of major fashion brands whether on their way to a business meeting or out for a stroll. Situated along the Seine River, the area is also an artistic hub, with some of the city’s most prestigious museums, art dealers and small galleries.
The area of St-Germain-des-Prés and Latin Quarter is in the 5th and 6th district of Paris, bordered on the north by the Seine, to the east by the Invalides & Tour Eiffel Quarter, to the south by the Luxembourg Quarter and to the west by the Latin Quarter.
The center of the area is the church of St. Germain des Prés. The original foundations were laid in the 3d century A.D. but the church standing today was built in 1163 and is the remnant of what was once a rather large monastery complex.
The place contains many of the Paris monuments, museums and gardens, ranging from the brand-new Institut du Monde Arabe to the Middle Age Musée de Cluny, or the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in the Jardin des Plantes.
