Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting
Published: 16 March 2017
From 22 February 2017 to 22 May 2017
Considered as one of the most renowned figures of the Dutch Golden Age Painting, until May 22nd, 2017, Johannes Vermeer (1632 – 1675) will be taking center stage at Europe’s most prestigious museum, the Louvre.
Noted for producing paintings of domestic interior scenes depicting middle-class life, Vermeer painted some of the most wonderful works of art which are still today regarded unique in their beauty and style. He was famous for using light in his paintings, a technique that can be obviously seen in all of his paintings including The Milkmaid (c. 1657–58), Woman Holding a Balance (c. 1662–63), The Lacemaker (c. 1669–70), and The Love Letter (c.1666).
“Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting” is a golden opportunity that you should absolutely take advantage of, if you’re one of our guests this spring. Holding a remarkable number of paintings by both Vermeer and his contemporaries, it offers you the chance to discover more about the Dutch painting in the 17th century, a period during which the nation was one of the most prosperous ones in Europe.
