160 masterpieces from the Arab world's 'universal museum'
'The Birth of a Museum' ('Naissance d'un musée') is an exhibit at the Paris Louvre Museum that tells the tale of a museum that will open in 2015 in Abu Dhabi. The museum will be an extension of the Louvre, signifying a groundbreaking partnership between the United Arab Emirates and France. The collaboration began in 2007, when the two countries signed an agreement to carry out the museum project.
The Louvre Abu Dhabi will present major pieces from the world of archeology, the world of fine arts and the world of decorative arts. Works from a multitude of regions and periods will be represented -- includng contemporary art, making the institution a universal museum in the Arab world. The museum will also feature a telling of the history of art.
In anticipation of the museum's opening in 2015, the Louvre Museum in Paris presents the exhibition 'The Birth of a Museum,' which displays 160 works that have been acquired by the Louvre Abu Dhabi since 2009. Most of the works have never before been displayed, giving visitors a unique chance to see rare masterpieces. From Antiquity to the present day, visitors can get a sneak peek of Abu Dhabi's impressive art collection right in Paris.
