Wake Up and Smell the Coffee at Le Laboratoire
From 17 May 2013 to 15 September 2013
The human sense of smell explored
In how many different ways can you experience coffee? This is a question being asked by a contemporary art center in Paris called Le Laboratoire. To answer this question, along with other questions revolving around the human sense of smell, the center has created the Olfactive Project, in collaboration with various artists and the American universities MIT and Harvard. This project has been initiated as a response to the creation of the OPHONE, which enables people to send messages to each other using electronically transmitted scents. The plan is to stage several different experimental exhibitions that explore the sense of smell over the next year. The first of these exhibits will be taking place from May 17 until September 15, 2013, and it is called 'The Virtual Coffee and the OPHONE.' The exhibit is divided into four stages, and visitors will progress through each one. Throughout this enlightening and amusing journey, visitors will experience the components that make coffee smell like coffee, taste coffee in various forms -- like liquid and vapor, be introduced to the OPHONE while smelling odors through the device, and then send a message themselves using the OPHONE. As a result, the exhibit will provide visitors with the chance to make some very interesting olfactive discoveries.
